Complete Atlantic route from monumental Porto to Santiago de Compostela. Walk across wooden boardwalks over ocean beaches, fishing villages, the Minho river ferry crossing, and the Galician coast.
Route description
The Coastal Portuguese Way from Porto is one of the most stunning coastal experiences among all Jacobean paths. It starts in the historic Douro city and heads north following beaches and wooden walkways along the Portuguese Atlantic shore.
Throughout the stages, pilgrims pass through coastal towns rich in seafaring tradition such as Vila do Conde, Esposende, Viana do Castelo, and Caminha, where the iconic ferry crossing takes you across the Minho River into Galicia (A Guarda).
In Galicia, the trail follows the ocean through Oia and Baiona, climbs along trails overlooking the Vigo estuary, and merges in Redondela with the central way towards the Obradoiro Square in Santiago.
